On October 13, 2007, more than 60 local authors and over 600 guests paid special tribute to Mitchell Kaplan for his efforts to promote literacy in Miami, his support of the Library, and the 25th anniversary of his independent book store Books & Books.

There were sixteen area restaurants at hand to supply delicious appetizers and desserts and three musical groups spread music all through the Miami Beach Regional Branch completing the festive mood. The event raised $40,000 to help fund the Miami-Dade Public Library Foundation’s literacy programs.
